Studio Bas Sala is an interdisciplinary design studio based in Rotterdam. We create and implement innovative projects in public spaces, products, and interiors. Interactivity and design research are central to our work.
Our designs invite people to sit, play, think, and relax, often bringing a smile to their faces. Interdisciplinary collaboration (with both professionals and non-professionals) and high-quality products are key aspects of our approach. Many of our projects are self-initiated and focus not only on physical design but also on how they are used and how they can provide value beyond just financial gain.
Projects initiated by Studio Bas Sala include the Hefpark in Rotterdam, an adaptive community park, and the redevelopment of the Gele Gebouw in the Zomerhofkwartier in Rotterdam, a space where creators, doers, and thinkers collaborate around urban themes.
Bas Sala is the initiator and design coordinator of the Mtic-design knowledge exchange program. This program facilitates knowledge exchange in product design, where Dutch designers collaborate with Latin American designers to create products and share insights gained through the co-creation process. Previously,
Bas Sala was a lecturer and head of the Interior Architecture department at Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam.
